  • What is discovery dive?
    Discovery dive is the popular term for the first diving experience.
  • Is it necessary to know how to swim to participate in the baptism dive?
    You don't need to know how to swim. This is because the SCUBA equipment will make you float until the beginning of the dive. And during the dive, the professional guiding you will be responsible for your movement.
  • The duration of the discovery dive?
    The dive itself lasts about 30 minutes. However, before the dive, you will go through a brief instruction. Therefore, the total time for the experience is about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  • What is the maximum depth for the baptism dive?
    You will reach a maximum depth of 10 meters.
  • How much does the discovery dive cost?
    The baptism dive has two prices, depending on its type. Beach Baptism: In this baptism, you will start the dive from a beach without the need for a boat. Price: R$ 350.00. Boat Baptism: In this baptism, you will reach the dive site by boat. Price: R$ 300.00.
  • Will there be any photo or video?
    Our team will take photos during your dive. We will send you, within 5 business days, at least 5 edited photos. In some cases, we may also record a short video, but this depends on the dive conditions.
  • Can I increase the quantity of videos and photos?
    You can indeed increase it. For that, you can request the participation of another diver from our team with the exclusive function of photographing and filming you. This process will incur an additional fee of R$ 150.00 to your dive.
  • Where are the discovery dives held?
    Our diving spots are: Beach dives: Praia da Reserva, Pontal no Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Abricó, Grumari e Barra de Guaratiba Boat dives: Ilha de Palmas, Ilha de Peças, Ilha Rasa de Guaratiba, Praia do Perigoso e Praia das conchas.
  • Is any equipment necessary?
    No! The package includes all the necessary equipment for your dive.
  • Is it necessary to undergo pool training before baptism?
    Yes! We can include a pool training session before your baptism. This session will have a cost of R$ 250,00.
  • Do the courses have certificates?
    Yes! All our courses will provide you with an international certificate. It will be issued by the world's largest diving certifying agency.
  • What is the duration of the courses?
    The duration depends on the course and the client's availability. Here are the average times for some courses: Open Water Diver: About two weeks. Advanced Open Water Diver: One weekend. Rescue Diver: Two weeks. Divemaster: Three months. Night Diver: One weekend. Deep Diver: One weekend. Please note that our team will do their best to meet your needs and availability.
  • Which is the first course?
    The first course is the Open Water Diver. Upon completion, you will receive an international certification that allows you to dive to a maximum depth of 18 meters.
  • Can I dive alone after the course?
    You will learn during the courses that for safety reasons we always dive in pairs. Therefore, even after the course, you will not be authorized to dive alone. However, your buddy does not need to be a diving professional; they just need to be another certified diver. There is a specific course for diving alone. However, it is aimed at experienced divers acting in specific situations.
  • What is the maximum depth I can dive to?
    Upon completing the Open Water Diver course, you will be certified to dive to a maximum depth of 18 meters. As you progress and complete the Advanced Open Water Diver course, you will be certified to dive to 30 meters. And upon completing the Deep Diver course, you will be able to dive to 40 meters. This is the limit of recreational diving.
  • Where do the pool classes take place?
    Our confined water classes take place at the following address: 226 Piemonte Street. Pedra de Guaratiba. Landmark: in front of the Motobear bar.
  • Do I need equipment to participate in the courses?
    No. The course fee includes all the necessary equipment for the course.
  • How do I schedule my dive?
    Contact us via WhatsApp at +55 21 98289-2496. Together, we will select your preferred date, and you will make the booking fee payment of R$ 50,00. After this, we will send you a form with the necessary information. And voilà, your booking is complete.
  • Can I cancel the appointment?
    You can cancel or reschedule your appointment up to 24 hours before your dive. After this time limit, the booking fee will not be refunded.
  • What are the payment methods?
    For payments made in full, we accept: cash, PIX (instant payment system in Brazil), bank slips, credit cards, and debit cards. For installment payments, we accept credit cards.
  • Can I pay in installments?
    You can pay in installments of up to 12 times. In the case of installment payments, we add the value of the interest charged by the card machine.
  • Can I dive while congested?
    No! If you're congested, you cannot dive. This is because being congested can lead to barotrauma or reverse block. Don't put your health at risk!
  • Can I work with diving?
    Of course! Upon obtaining your Divemaster certification, you become a diving professional. This allows you to work in various activities related to recreational diving, such as guiding dives, taking underwater photos, performing equipment maintenance, working in logistics, teaching classes, among others*. *Additional training may be required for certain activities.
  • What are the diving spots?
    The West Diver team conducts daily dives at various points in the western zone of Rio de Janeiro. Some of them are: Boat dives: Ilha de Palmas, Ilha de Peças, Perigoso, Praia das Conchas e Ilha Rasa de Guaratiba. Beach dives: Praia da Reserva, Pontal do Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Abricó, Grumari e Barra de Guaratiba.
  • Do you rent equipment?
    Yes. We rent equipment at our operations upon presentation of your certification.
  • Do I need to be certified to dive with you?
    If you are not certified, you can dive with us by doing a baptism. However, if you want to dive unaccompanied by a professional, certification is required.
  • I am a certified diver. Can I dive with you?
    Of course! You will be very welcome to dive with us.
  • Do you refill cylinders?
    Yes! Currently, we refill compressed air cylinders and soon we'll offer NITROX refills as well. We also perform hydrostatic testing in partnership with another company.
  • Can I work onboard after taking a course at West Diver?
    If your goal is to work in commercial diving, the answer is no! For that, you should seek a course focused on that specific skill. However, as a recreational diving professional, it is possible to work in onboard operations. Operations such as: scientific research, guiding dives on boats, on liveaboards, among others.
